2021 Oscars: My Nominations

Oscar nominations are less than a week ago, so why not take the opportunity to wear the Academy members shoes for a day and pick my own choices in this bizarre and unexpected awards season. Firstly, what has this season offered us so far? Expected films have made their mark; the Golden Globes threw prognostication, and a little bit of logic, out the window; the leading actress race remains the most unpredictable and the BAFTAs resemble more the scattered focus of a film festival’s awards and less a serious Oscar predictor. Secondly, the rules: the picks have to be in line with this season’s other choices, across a broad range of ceremonies, so there won’t be too many spectacular outliers in the mix. There will probably be fair crossover between my picks and the eventual nominees. Choosing can be more fun than predicting, so with that being said, let’s take a look at my nominees for the 93rd Academy Awards.
